"Paper specificity is based off societal rules"
I agree that there is a certain "way" we all learn to write an academic paper. I personally almost get nervous writing an essay out of the typical MLA essay format. It is like a foreign concept to me. In school we are repeatedly taught the "right way" to write, so going out of our comfort zone.
"The writer should paint a picture with words"
I agree with this completely, I feel that sometimes visual aids can take away from a paper when the reader will concentrate only on them instead of the paper itself. It is important to understand how to write and "show the reader how the writer feels and what is going being said.
"By not following them [writing rules] one can become an outcast and less excepted"
I think that because we are so influenced into thinking there is only one was to truly write a paper, it can be difficult to get around the notion that there is indeed alternate ways. This quote shows the fear of trying something new in writing as in anything else. Being the one to stand out can be scary and a risk to take. Everyone fears failure.
I completely agree with you. I get uncomfortable writing by the rules, as if i will get in trouble if i go anywhere outside the standard format, and what professors expect from us.
